Reflections from meetings with companies, strategists and diplomats in China, Australia and India

The global economy is undergoing a period of change. New technologies, demographic shifts and geopolitical forces are influencing how growth is generated and which sectors are likely to emerge as winners or losers in the next phase of the global economy.

During a trip to China, Hong Kong and India, Jonas Jakobson met with companies, strategists and decision-makers to gain a deeper understanding of developments on the ground. In New Delhi, Jonas also met with Sweden’s ambassador, which provided further insight into the region’s economic and political direction.

India is often highlighted as the next major driver of growth. Rapid urbanisation and a growing middle class are driving this development, alongside investment in roads, airports, buildings, consumption, energy and healthcare. Jonas Jakobson outside One Lodha Place in Mumbai during his trip to Asia, where he met with companies and investors to gain a deeper understanding of how businesses are developing in the Indian market.

China accounts for a large share of global industrial production and is driving developments in AI, renewable energy, electrification and advanced robotics. At the same time, there are challenges linked to a weaker property market and demographic changes.

Australia is growing in line with continued strong demand for raw materials and plays a key role in global supply chains linked to the energy transition.

During April and May, we will be hosting lunch presentations at which Jonas Jakobson will share his insights from his trip to Asia and discuss the meetings he has had with companies, diplomats and strategists. The presentation will take place in Uppsala on 22 April, in Stockholm on 5 May and in Gothenburg on 6 May. Please contact andreas.nilsson@nordeq.se if you would like to attend.
