Thierry Carlier was appointed French Ambassador to Sweden on 7 March 2025. He has a solid background in French public administration and has spent much of his career working with international defence and security issues.
He has previously held senior positions at the General Secretariat for Defence and National Security (SGDSN), where he was responsible for international and strategic issues and technical cooperation. In that role, he worked closely with several authorities on issues relating to terrorism, non-proliferation and export control, among other things.
He then returned to the Direction générale de l’armement (DGA), first as Head of International Development and later as Deputy Director General, after being promoted to General.
Ambassador Carlier emphasised the importance of continued strong European cooperation in several areas and the long-standing good relations between France and Sweden.
